A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF A MANUFACTURER THAT IS IGNORANT OF POLYESTER FIBERFILL INSULATION!!!
Isbjörn to use PrimaLoft’s new 100% PCR insulation
Outdoor
children’s clothing brand Isbjörn is among the earlier adopters of new
insulation made from 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content from
high-performance insulation materials developer PrimaLoft.
The Swedish brand will incorporate PrimaLoft’s Black Insulation 100% PCR into
its Autumn-Winter 2018/19 collection. Products to feature the insulation will
include the Frost lightweight jacket and jumpsuit, and the new Stroller
bag. (I’ll bet these kids get to
know that these light weight jackets make them frosty).
PrimaLoft and Isbjörn (the name means ‘Polar Bear’ in Swedish) have been
partners for a number of years.
At the time of the announcement, Maria Frykman Forsberg, founder and CEO of
Isbjörn, said: “As we strive to make our products as sustainable as possible
without any impact on technical performance, our collaboration with PrimaLoft
is integral to our future ranges, designed to equip the adventurers of
tomorrow. As soon as we heard about the new 100% recycled insulation, we
had to incorporate it into our collection as soon as possible.”
For his part, Jochen Lagemann, managing director for PrimaLoft Europe &
Asia, added: “As with many of our brand partners, Isbjörn of Sweden shares our
values of sustainability and product quality and durability. It’s
important to pass on these values to a new generation of outdoor enthusiasts.”
I have no knowledge if this company sells their products in the USA and if they do not that is good for the USA consumers.
The first thing I will point out is that Climashield is available in Europe and this company has no knowledge of why they should use Climashield and they also have no knowledge of why they should not be using a chopped polyester fiberfill regardless of the source, Primaloft included that is made from post-consumer reprocessed polyester.
As I have recently learned the post-consumer polyester fiberfill is more expensive than virgin polyester fiberfill but it also deteriorates much sooner. Does this sound like they are making “sustainable” products that have quality and durability? I would say these products are less durable and less quality so they are not sustainable. These garments have no “technical performance” whatever that is supposed to be.
I know that the Primaloft product is composed of fine denier fiber that is I believe less than 2.5 denier. This quality of fiber does not nor can it produce a lofty product. I also know from my many years of selling fiberfill to children’s snow suit manufacturers that the basic test was; Does the sleeve when it is in the hands of a mother fill up her hand? If it didn’t then the garment was not going to keep her child warm. When you look at these garments, I can assure you it would take both sleeves doubled over to fill one hand. Maybe this company is selling their garments to people who live in southern Sweden where it is warm? Or are they selling these garments for spring and summer use. I do not believe they are adequate for what I think of as truly winter garments in Sweden.
Don’t they know that children DO NOT have much muscle mass and NEED much more heavily insulated garments than adults? Apparently they do not know this.
It is apparent to me that the people who own and or run this company actually have no knowledge of insulation and therefore should make summer clothing only.
