WHY GORE-TEX AND LIKE MATERIALS CONTRIBUTE DIRECTLY TO COLD, SMELLY, AND FUNGUS INFECTED FEET WITH THE HELP OF CLOSE KNIT SOCKS
Here is more information I found readily available on the internet.
Sweat Glands Feet
Feet alone are covered by more than 250 000 sweat glands. These Eccrine glands are especially active because feet require higher level of hydration than most other body parts. Sweat glands in your feet are activated each time temperature of your feet rises. However sometimes sweat glands are over-active, so they produce more fluid than body’s thermoregulation mechanisms need.
Sweat glands in your feet are Eccrine glands which produce clear light fluid, which consists of water and salt. Therefore foot sweat itself is odorless, it is rather the bacteria on your skin, which come in contact with sweat and create the foul odor. Because bacteria love darkness, humidity and lack of oxygen - the socks in your shoes is their kingdom, this is where they let loose.
The intensity off smell will depend on the actual amount of sweat involved. The more fluids bacteria can come in contact with, the stronger will be the odor. This is one of the reasons, why excessive feet sweating in most cases involve odor issues. Once the excessive sweating will be addressed, the odor problem will go away as well.
Yesterday we learned that liquid is what comes out of the sweat glands and if there is enough heat within a garment it will cause the liquid to change to a vapor.
As I have previously reported every person I have ever spoken with about the boots they wear with gore-tex and thinsulate have cold feet. The specific reason happens to be the sweat moisture that is trapped in the boot getting cold so the moisture does what moisture does it absorbs the heat from your foot. Due to limited amount of heat generated by the feet it does not take very long for the cold to set in.
I know from personal experience and it has been supported by dozens of Wiggy’s Lamilite boot owners and Lamilite sock owners that they have warm and dry feet. The reason they have dry feet is directly related to the fact that the Lamilite traps the heat generated by the feet which I now know is what is causing the liquid moisture to convert to vapor which is not restricted from moving out of the boot.
The Lamilite does not function like very expensive as well as cheap socks in trapping the liquid creating a kingdom for bacteria to thrive. This situation also promotes foot fungus and other foot diseases.
I know that Rocky shoe company markets gore-tex socks which people who have purchased them wear them over traditional wool socks so they have cold and very smelly and wet feet and possible foot fungus problems.
At this time the military has given contracts to Belleville and Danner boot companies to make a new cold weather boot. I can only assume that these companies are attempting to do boots that are different from each other, except I would not bet against both of them using gore-tex and thinsulate in them. Tragically these boots will not perform any better than what they want to replace.
The balances of the footwear manufacturers who supposedly serve the general public are for all intents and purposes selling the same boots through retailers all over the country to unsuspecting buyers.
The use of Lamilite socks will help the situation because they will allow the water to move away from your feet, however the water will never change to a vapor and move past the gore-tex and thinsulate barrier.
In order for you to have warm and dry feet you will have to wear Lamilite lined boots to go with the Lamilite socks which you get when you buy the boots.
Continuous filament (CF) fiber insulation that I call Lamilite/Climashield never ceases to amaze me. The fact that its ability to retain heat when used in certain weights as I have been learning will cause sweat water to convert to a vapor is quite remarkable. After working with CF since 1968 I thought that I knew as much as I could know about it and these past few days I have learned that it is directly responsible for actions I never gave thought too.
With respect to learning, it is an activity that has long ago ended for people who work in the outdoor industry. Certainly no one in the industry has learned that waterproof breathable materials don’t exist, and it been 40 plus years. This fact has led other companies to promote equally bogus products.
Recently I wrote an article about HeiQ Company offering a product called Smart Temp for thermoregulation. Yesterday one of the representatives called me and I had a chance to ask questions as to how the product worked and how it was applied to fabric.
The chemical is applied like any water repellent via a bath, or soaking the fabric in the chemical and then the fabric is dried. When the garment is made and generally the garments made with the fabric is an aerobic garment so it is worn in a warm atmosphere. Once you begin to heat up and generate sweat the chemical that has been applied to the fabric starts to draw heat away from you therefore you are cooling. I chose not to say isn’t that what is happening anyway because I knew that I would not get a logical response. The chemical will breakdown in time via laundering I was told. Therefore it will also breakdown as a result of your sweat and now you have allowed yourself to be exposed to whatever the chemical is which I strongly suspect is not a good idea. You will have entered into the realm of the chemically sensative.
Virtually every company that markets aerobic wear uses some chemical that is like HeiQ’s that will cool you, keep you from being smelly, wick away your sweat, etc.
The people employed at these companies have zero knowledge of what they are offering and I believe they are not intelligent enough to even know that they are selling bogus products.
This seems is the case with the entirety of the boot industry, I personally find it incomprehensible to think that they and I mean all of them do not know they are making boots for cold weather that have no place being worn on cold days, but unfortunately that is the case. Maybe one day they will ALL of them decide to remove their heads from where the sun does not shine.
Now I ask of one and all how much more information must be published proving beyond doubt that a waterproof breathable if it actually existed could allow the moisture out of the garment? Maybe a representative from the gore company will decide to engage me at some point in the future, however it is so far off in the future if it were to happen it cannot be seen. Or maybe a representative from rei or ll bean will engage me, or maybe a representative of one of the manufacturing companies will engage me. They all know where to find me however, I would not hold my breath as I do not believe they will because the negative publicity that they will receive they cannot afford. Also the fact that they will be exposed as frauds!!!
