THE MARINE BAG
I was first introduced to Wiggy's from a man named Mark Pacholec back in 1990. We were in the Marines together and somehow Mark got to know Jerry Wigutow. (Jerry can probably tell the story) and was introduced to "The Wiggy Bag".
Anyway, Mark was respected as a cold weather expert and being that we were all in cold weather unit, Mark was always talking about this "Wiggy bag". He slowly convinced Marine by Marine that the Wiggy bag was superior to anything on the market. He eventually convinced us all, and we all shelled out our own money and bought a Wiggy bag. (You should have seen the Supply Chief question why the entire until had turned back in their Government Issue sleeping bag one-by-one). That was nearly 27 years ago.
Now 2017 I can honestly tell you that I have used my Wiggy bag every part of those 27 years and to this day. It is in the same shape today as it was in 1990. It has traveled with me all over the world. I have taken all or part of the FTRSS system with me depending where I have traveled. I have photos of me sleeping in it in airports, and have used it in hotel rooms, camping and even in my own bed! I eventually learned that Wiggy makes bed comfortable and now every bed in my house is equipped with a Wiggy comfortable.
I need to buy more, but my inner and outer bag is usually found somewhere in my house as my kids are always using it as a blanket. It is affectionately known in my house as "The Marine Bag".
I love my Wiggy sleeping bag. I have always said that it is one of the best investments I have ever made. There are only a few products on the market that I wholeheartedly love and will promote. Wiggy's is one of them.
I have come to know Jerry Wigutow over the years through correspondences and I respect the man and thank-him for creating the greatest sleeping bags on Planet Earth. Additionally, as the CEO - who else do you know that answers the phones!!!!!
Wiggy's - THE BEST THAT THERE IS!
– John Mulkern
John’s testimonial brings back some memories for me and the Marine Corps. It was a major who fist called me wanting a woodland camo bag which was not being made by any sleeping bag company or for the military. So I made it for him. He then had Mark contact me. Mark not only recommended me to other Marines but also had the Marine Corps buy about 30 or 40 Ultima Thule’s that were shipped to their training base in Norway. Could be they are still being used.
What followed was a test of 300 sleep systems made by me using 6 different insulations. There were 50 each with these insulations. The Wiggy’s were the systems of choice but a major, now deceased, put the kibosh on my bags even though as was told to me by one of the testers the guys would fight for them every night.
Then I had a meeting with a new major at the outdoor retailer trade show who worked in soldier systems command. By this time the Marines and army were being issued their bastardization of my system and it was not performing very well. However, this major told me it performed great; he even used it at -30 F. When I heard that I looked him square in the eyes and told him he must have been in a heated building when it was -30 F.I further told him I did not ever appreciate someone insulting my intelligence. Sitting next to him was his aid, a captain who was female, she had to choke back the laughter that was swelling up inside. As an aside she was a chinook helicopter pilot and was not happy with a desk job, maybe they put her back in chinooks after the show. As for the major we had no further communication and the Marines have been suffering except the individuals that spend their own money with Wiggy's..
HOW ABOUT THIS REPORT?
I decided to sleep under the stars earlier this spring, so I set up my camp cot out in the back yard, threw my old, ripped, beat-up, 20 year-old sleeping pad on the cot, and rolled out my Wiggy's Overbag.
I had forgotten what it was like to sleep without any cover over my head, and was fascinated by the great star show, as this was during the dark of the moon...but the star display didn't last long, as I was soon out there in dream-land.
Well, next thing I knew, I was wakened by the early-bird Robins that were all carrying on, and as I semi-consciously pulled an arm out of my Overbag and flopped it down on the top of the bag, it came away soaking wet and cold! That brought me to (almost) fully awake in a hurry...
I had also forgotten about condensation (dew) formation on such a cool, clear night such as the one I had just slept through, and the outside of the top of my Overbag was thoroughly wetted down...BUT, inside the bag, I was totally warm, dry, and cozy! The low temperature over night was 48 degrees F, and at no time did I experience any cold spots, cool spots, or ANY spots. I never woke up once all night!
Every time I crawl into one of my three Wiggy's bags, the Overbag, my Superlight, or my Antarctic (Yes, I get it out once in a while just to take the edge off until I can use it in the REALLY cold stuff) I can't help but be amazed all over again at the soft, cozy, WARM comfort of your SUPERIOR products.
Best,
– Scott W.
This report is for all of the companies that claim to make a fabric that allows moisture out of a garment or the companies that make garments using fabrics that make the claim. Just think (something they do not do ever) here is a person and he is not the first to sleep in a Wiggy bag and find condensation on the outside of the sleeping bag.
The moisture came out of his body and the steady flow of heat from a sleeping individual drove the moisture through the lining, Lamilite insulation and the shell fabric.
Every fabric that carries the claim which is used for jackets does not function in this manner even though the individual is generating significant heat. When will you people such as Gore, Sympatex, eVent, and all of the other brands accept that you do not now, never have had or will ever have a material that will do what you have been claiming; I say lying about for all these years.
When will those in the consumer market place also accept that they are being lied too? When will the retailers accept that they are offering non-functioning garments to their customers? It will probably take the consumer walking away from these garments to get the retailer to walk from the manufacturer and no matter how much the garbage is advertised no one will buy it.
To date I have still not heard from any company that I have exposed as a seller of bogus material challenging me. I do not ever expect any of them will do so because the publicity will devastate them since they cannot prove what they have claimed works.
DUCKABACK MATERIAL
Yes the DUCKSBACK material is as close as you can get to a very water resistant fabric that does allow out moist vapor. DUCKSBACK material is like Lamilite/Climashield there is nothing like it. if you want warmth there is Lamilite, and if you want water resistance and vapor permeability there is DUCKSBACK!
