WILL WIGGY'S LEAD THE WAY?

Posted by

THE FOLLOWING TESTIMONIALS ARE HOW MY FRIDAY STARTED, NOT TOO SHABBY A WAY TO START THE DAY!!!

Hello Jerry

Our new Ducksback sweater with their detachable hood’s arrived today, (these are custom, and so if anyone wants one you will have to call to order). To absolutely no surprise these are the real go to jacket. I have owned a Wiggy's Sweater for nearly 10 years and without a doubt it is my cold weather "GO TO COAT" It is super lightweight and plenty of "Lamilite/Climashield" insulation. I also have and use a Ducksback zipper jacket shell with a hood for a great rain and wet weather jacket.

Without any doubt the wetter this shell gets the more waterproof it becomes. After being in a 3 hr. down pour of rain and sleet with nothing but a cotton T shirt underneath I stayed completely dry. Being a Boy Scout leader and camping 12 months a year in Wyoming you need to be prepared for all kinds of weather conditions. My new Wiggy's Ducksback sweater with the detachable hood will really fill the bill.

I am not new to Wiggy's as I have been using their sleeping bags, ground pads, mittens, Lamilite boots and socks, leggings (he means leg jackets), fishnet underwear, parka and bibs, liner vests and jackets, and a cagoule for over 20 years. There is absolutely no reason to be uncomfortable or cold any more. All of the mentioned products plus many more made right here in the USA with a terrific warranty that is backed up. Give Wiggy's a call and let Jerry help you to be more comfortable in all kinds of outdoor adventures.

Marco Rock Springs, WY.

I remember when Marco first called me. He had been visited by one of my customers from Texas who was 6’9” tall. My customer had one of my custom bags to fit him and when he pulled it out of the stuff sack to show Marc, Marco couldn’t believe how much bag was in the stuff sack. The bag was about 110 inches long. That is the story of me meeting Marco. He has visited Wiggy’s since Rock Springs is about 4 to 5 hour’s drive to Grand Junction.

If you do not know about Rock Springs aside from it being cold in the winter or for that matter most of the year it is windy for all of the year. So to have products that perform in the Rock Springs environment will get you many customers there. Marco has been very helpful in spreading the Wiggy word in the area for which I am thankful.

Marco’s comment about wearing the Ducksback zippered jacket in “rain and sleet” demonstrates what I believe is that the layer of Lamilite insulation was sufficient to keep him warm. Another bonus if others have the same experience is the Ducksback material showing more water resistance the wetter it gets. While I have worn the zippered jacket in rain here the rain hasn’t been as severe as Marco is referencing.

I received the following testimonial on the web site versus an e mail as is the case with Marco.

Awesome coat

I bought this coat for hunting in the late season in Utah. After receiving the coat I was amazed at how light weight it was. I also realized that this coat would work for temperatures well below freezing. I have now used my pull over for hunting, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. I was wearing the fish net long underwear and a long sleeve shirt with the pull over on a snowmobile outing with an ambient air temperature of -5 degrees Fahrenheit. I stayed out all day and I was warm and dry all day. The Ducksback material is an excellent wind breaker. This coat is awesome, thank you Jerry for all that you do.

– Ryan

Ryan too have the Ducksback zippered jacket and I am learning from him that he has used it with certainly more than a T-shirt at -5 F which is surprising but he would not have written the temperature if it weren’t true. As for the fabric being a good windbreaker I am not surprised. However I strongly believe the fact that there is a layer of Lamilite/Climashield in the garment helps the wind breaker performance of the Ducksback material. So, Ryan many thanks to you for sharing with me and ultimately the world as Marco has both of your experiences with Wiggy’s.

I am convinced that all of the materials that gore, event, and the rest of the world of wpb providers would have materials that would work better if all they did was leave off the films and coatings that presently apply to their materials.

Just imagine if rei and bean are reading this article and they go to gore and whoever else

The work with on buying the wpb materials and then say we want the same materials without the film and then they start making light weight insulated garments just like the Ducksback or all purpose jackets. Of course they will not be using the Climashield since they will not send it to China, but they will use the chopped staple waste fiberfill available in China. Could you imagine that these geniuses would follow my lead, not likely!

When I found the Ducksback now 8 years ago I knew it was a very good fabric, however since I have been using it for the last 3 years I have learned from my customers much more about the fabrics ability to perform. Because of the information that has come to me from customers I have shared that knowledge with my audience and the result for Wiggy’s has been very positive. I cannot speak to the number of orders that I have received for Ducksback garments but it has been and continues to grow. In some instances I now make other garments with the Ducksback material such as the sweater because customers have asked for them. Many thanks to those who have requested Ducksback garments that I had no thoughts of making thanks for asking since today they are selling very well.

Another product that Wiggy’s manufactures that hikers should be wearing is the Lamilite socks. Most hikers spend lots of money for wool socks, as much as $25.00 per pair. They get on the trail and after a few hours of hiking they find that their socks are wet. So they take out a second pair that also cost $25.00 to finish the hike. Now if they are camping they have 2 more pair in their backpack for the next day and of course do their best to dry out the two pair from day one. Cost wise they may be into the wool socks for as much as $100.00.

If they were wearing the Wiggy’s socks they would only need the one pair they have on and if they are the 8 inch socks their cost is $25.00 and if they are the 13 inch socks the cost is $35.00. The Lamilite socks do not retain any moisture, never get stretched out of shape or retain odor. If you are out in the field for 2 days or 2 months all you need is one pair of Lamilite socks. You will never be concerned about a second or 5th pair of socks needed and of course the savings in dollars not having to buy so many pair and carry them is very significant and you will not have to deal with odorous socks.

As many have discovered while the Lamilite socks are insulated they do not cause feet to get uncomfortably warm in warm climatic conditions. That is primarily because they are not retaining the foot moisture that wool socks retain.

Once again what people going into the field have to be concerned with is moisture which generally is body produced so the more clothing items you are wearing etc. that do not get affected by moisture the better off you are. Also once you realize the items you are wearing or using such as a sleeping bag that are not affected by moisture it is one less area of concern. I always think people who buy down bags and then take great care in how they MUST take care of the down bag when they go into the field and they ALL discover that the down in the bags gets wet anyway. Years ago I was told by one guy he had been out for a month and the bag never got wet. He was out of the bag for a month because it was in his house so it never got wet. He did not like my response when I told him that.

So, always consider what you buy for use in the field that is not attracted to moisture, you time out in the field will be much more enjoyable.

1 March 2019, Portage, AK: Started ride at about 6F getting up to low 20s. Wearing fishnet top, cycling shirt, then Wiggy's Windshirt. Windshirt is my go to winter bicycling top. Notice it is unzipped, which is how it is most of time due to being very warm in single digits. Used Wiggy's pogies this ride since it was cold and ride was several hours long. Never had cold hands.
