MORE NONSENCE ABOUT WATER/PROOF BREATHABLE

What makes eVent better?

The critical difference between our technology and traditional waterproof/breathable fabrics is the billions of microscopic pores built in to our proprietary membrane that work instantly to vent water vapor (sweat) that builds up inside your apparel and footwear when you perform.

We call this Direct Venting™ technology, and unlike other technologies, it doesn't need to get wet to work. It’s a 'dry system' that allows eVent fabrics to be fully waterproof and fully breathable – keeping you dry and comfortable in the widest range of temperatures and conditions.

state of temperature and humidity that reduces the wild swings our bodies go through to stay in balance during physical exertion.

The result is that you’ll spend more time performing at your best and less time fussing with your gear. And when conditions are bad, that can make all the difference.

I called the event company and asked why they believed that they had a superior product and was given quite a bit of information that was true for all of the other so called waterproof breathable materials on the market and how they differed from the rest. The response was very interesting.

As I suspected all of the other companies that sell or market garments with the so called waterproof breathable treated fabric are incorporating monolithic film either on the fabric directly of as in the case of Gore applied to the film.

Monolithic film or the chemical that monolithic film is made of will absorb moisture and then supposedly it evaporates away. Event does not use the monolithic film so their product is more vapors permeable; they like to say breathable. When I enquired about the adhesive compromising the vapor permeability because they apply the adhesive I believe exactly as Gore does with a gravure dot roller the adhesive dots when put under pressure become amoeba shaped, but he said no, nonsense. He did agree it does to some degree but it was still more vapor permeable than the rest of the market place.

I told this fellow that the military testing of Gore-Tex garments in the late 70,s or early 80’s showed that moisture condensed on the inside of the exterior garment since the moisture came against the cold nylon shell that was laminated to the Gore-Tex, therefore ending any further movement of the moisture. The fellow claimed that there product does allow the moisture out. When he said that I knew I should have been wearing waders.

My interest was really peeked because I read about a ski company now offering skiwear made with this material. I am no longer surprised to read more and more bogus advertising or hear the diatribe from company representatives about materials that simply do not function as is claimed.

As I have always suggested always ask questions and buyer beware, maybe event has by passed the monolithic film but it is irrelevant

ALESKA PIPLINE PROJECT

Back in the early 1970’s when the Alaska pipeline was built I submitted a snowsuit for the work crew to wear, but it was rejected and the company bought Eddie Bauer down parkas. Due to the amount of perspiration absorbed by the down the parkas lost loft and insulation so as I was told had to have at least 2 or 3 parkas per man. That way they could dry them and rotate them. Ultimately I did supply the mitten manufacture with the original Lamilite as the insulation in their mittens. I made enough money to pay for my 15 month sailing sabbatical.

Today Wiggy’s is the dominant supplier of parkas and bibs and mukluks and mitten as well as other weights of garments to the oil patch in Alaska. Some fire retardant and some not fire retardant.

For those who might be looking at the possibility of working on the Keystone pipeline project you might want to think about the Wiggy’s cold weather clothing if you get hired on. You cannot do better. There are other items that will serve you well such as my fishnet underwear, Lamilite socks and boots.

Then again if you want the best cold weather garments available look to Wiggy’s.
