ZIPPERS

Jerry,

Recently while camping, the Wiggy’s zipper was tested yet again. The temperature at bedtime was in the low 50’s and we woke up to a brisk 37 degrees. As a senior aged camper approaching 70, I found the need to relieve myself during the night. I simply unzipped my Wiggy’s bag and went about my business and climbed back in and rezipped. A bit later, another camper with a no sleep brand tried to unzip his bag and the experience was hysterical for us to watch but painful for that camper. He worked so hard but was unsuccessful in getting his bag open, finally ripping the zipper apart to get out before an accident occurred. He could never get it closed as the zipper was destroyed and he was cold due to the open bag. Luckily, we were on our first night out and we were still close to our cars, I flipped him my keys and told him where he could find my Wiggy’s comforter that I keep in my car.

Simply said, I think I sold him on Wiggy’s that evening but what a tough way to learn a lesson.

I love my Wiggy’s sleeping bags (I have 4) and I can depend on your products always performing, starting back in 1991 with my first Wiggy’s bag that is still in use to this day!

Jeff Johnson

Medina, Oh

Since Jeff is a Wiggy bag owner as well as many other products from Wiggy’s they all have the #10 molded tooth zipper. The person he was camping with had a no sleep sleeping bag that was made with a coil zipper. This fellow learned the hard way why coil zippers should never be used even on no sleep sleeping bags.

Jeff as always, many thanks for relating one more of your experiences.

For new readers when I was first introduced to the sleeping bag manufacturers, I noted that all and I mean all of the better quality companies used the #10 molded tooth zipper. The first bag I made was in a small factory in NYC and the zipper they installed in the bag for me was a #10 molded tooth zipper. I used that bag mostly on my boat for 3 years and never had a problem with it. The zipper was never affected by the salt air and neither was my sleeping bag. all the other live a board’s has cotton lined no sleep sleeping bags that would absorb the salt air and always be clammy. When I started Wiggy’s I naturally went with the #10 molded tooth zipper and have used well over 100,000 of them in the 35 years of Wiggy’s being in operation and have had insignificant problems with them. Jeff’s history goes back to 1991.

Since the later part of the 1970’s the companies located in the USA who made no sleep sleeping bags changed to the coil zippers. They have continued to have the factories they contract with continue to install them in the no sleep sleeping bags they import into the USA. Their use of these coil zippers has led all other companies that make no sleep sleeping bag to use them as well. The end result is a universal reason for people buying these no sleep sleeping bags to return them.

You would think the retail stores that sell these no sleep sleeping bags would at least ask their supplier for no sleep sleeping bags with a better zipper like the one Wiggy uses. This will never happen.

A note to mariners you should be using Lamilite sleeping bags because they do not attract the moist ocean air. Why do you think I make the bag I call the Nautilus, it will outperform any other sleeping bag offered to mariners? You should also consider my liner vest and liner jacket, as they will outperform any garment you presently wear under your foul weather gear. Even if wet you will stay warm of course, you should be wearing the fishnet top too.

With regards to yesterday’s article mentioning the call from Cannon AFB wanting to have my Ultima Thule, Antarctic bag and Over bags vacuum packed as back up if the trash bags they were intending to buy did not perform they would have mine. Therefore, this begs the question why not just buy my bags to begin with. Some one does not have confidence the three brands they were intending to buy would not perform but mine would. So, why not just buy the Wiggy’s bags?

My mind tells me there is something afoot here and we must get inspector Cluso [?] I do not know how to spell his French name.

These military people are not spending their money but our we taxpayers, so they only know what they want regardless of if it works or not.

I always pity the grunts who are issued substandard products.
