sleeping bags for canadian soldiers

Posted by

CAN THEY DO IT IN CANADA?

This has absolutely nothing to do with tariffs. It has to do with arctic sleeping bags.

We know that a manufacturer provided the Canadian military with a sleeping system that proved to be in adequate for cold weather use let alone arctic use. We know because it was reported in the Canadian newspapers and considered a fiasco. What was not reported was the number of soldiers who I believe suffered from hypothermic conditions. I believe this to be the case since a solicitation came out for 200 hypothermia bags. The insulation specified to be used in these hypothermia bags is Lamilite. If you look at the Hypothermia bag display on the Wiggy website there are two hypothermia bag national stock numbers for the Wiggy hypothermia bag. one number is for orange to and the other for green top hypothermia bag. The solicitation called for green. I have already supplied the manufacturer with the Lamilite.

I mention this because I believe they want to be prepared if the need arises for a hypothermia bag.

That said it seems to me if they have specified the Lamilite to be used as the insulation in a product made to take damaged people from a cold situation to a warm situation then the sleeping bag that is issued to this person in the first place should be Lamilite insulated.

Did you ever hear the expression; “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink”. Keep in mind we sell more of our hypothermia bags to Canadian organization military mostly coast guard and medical rescue operations than we sell in the USA. That said they should be specifying Lamilite in their sleeping bags.

At this time, I am told the company that delivered the debacle bags is working on a new bag for colder conditions.

That is all well and good except whoever they are does not have a clue to what they are trying to do. There were a lot of thoughts that went into the making of a Wiggy bag I didn’t just snap my fingers and there it was. My guess is whoever they are, are more concerned with manufacturing and weight of product. if the fiberfill is too thick that affects manufacturing. Their way of working with the fiberfill is to quilt it which means multiple layers which means additional material costs as well as direct needle manufacturing costs.

I could go on and on, but it has no purpose. As I see it know who ever is working on the project in Canada can’t do it.

If you are a soldier in the Canadian army, call me and I’ll see what I can do to save you money in shipping as I do for US army guys serving in Alaska.
