Managing the Humid Climate Inside Your Clothes

MORE ABOUT HUMIDITY

Some years ago, companies in the outdoor industry wrote about the personal environment we all have around us and they were right. That personal environment is only one thing: a “humid environment”.

When we dress, we are isolating our body from the outside environment in general but the humid environment around our body contained within our clothing remains next to us.

The outside environment can have wind, rain, snow as well as more humidity.

So, the only aspect of the environment that we have to deal with directly is the humidity that our clothing has contained around us. Remember the definition:

“Humidity is the concentration of water vapor present in the air. Water vapor, the gaseous state of water, is generally invisible to the human eye. Humidity indicates the likelihood for precipitation, dew, or fog to be present”.

We are always emitting moisture through our pores to varying degrees. When we are doing nothing, what comes out is very little since our core is not heating up, but when we are very active our core heats up and the flow of moisture coming through our pores increases so the humidity index within our clothing increases. The end result is a person who is uncomfortable except those wearing fishnet underwear when it is cold.

But if you wear the fishnet to when the weather is warm the fishnet top will also help to keep you comfortable. All of the moisture creating the humid environment within your clothing has to be allowed to move away from your skin surface and the fishnets do that while it is still in a vapor state. But that second layer or more has to be billowy, so the vapor has someplace to go. If what you wear is close fitting that cannot happen. You want to have a bellows action to take place as you move, because your movement causes the bellows action to happen, resulting is moving the humidity within your clothing to leave.

The realty is that even with this method of dress you will never create an environment that is as comfortable as being on your sofa in an airconditioned room.

This humid situation that we humans are always dealing with regardless of if it is hot weather or cold weather, we must be conscious of. Also, be aware that we are not in jeopardy of life threating conditions when it is hot but when it is cold wearing the proper clothing layers after the fishnet base layer will serve you well to better survive in the cold weather.

Understanding why you have a humid environment around yourself means that you are “conscious” of your situation.
