Why Mittens Keep Hands Warmer Than Gloves

DO YOU WANT COLD HANDS?

When it is cold enough to wear gloves, your hands are going to get cold because you have separated your fingers. Put on a mitten and your fingers warm each other. When you wear gloves that are lined with a membrane laminated to a nonwoven, you trap whatever moisture comes out of your hands in the glove, further causing them to get cold.

Back in the 1960’s and early 70’s when I was very active in the ski industry there were companies that made gloves and one of them was Grandoe located in Gloversville, N.Y. Aside from the gloves for skiing they made a mitten called the boxing glove. I supplied them with their insulation and I was astounded how much they used. I can only take an educated guess as to the number of mittens of this model they sold, about 60/70 thousand pair. Back then they caused me to have more business, almost all of their competition started calling me for the original Lamilite [not that I called it Lamilite back then] because they all realized skiers wanted warm hands.

Today my Kodiak is modeled after the boxing glove. So if you are a skier and want warm hands need I say more.
